New Toyota Hilux Unveiled with Global Debut
Toyota Motor Corporation has introduced the ninth-generation Hilux at a world premiere event in Bangkok, Thailand.
Multi-Pathway Powertrain Approach
The new Hilux features a diverse range of powertrains, including:
- a diesel model,
- a battery electric vehicle (BEV),
- and plans for a fuel cell electric vehicle (FCEV).
This strategy is designed to offer regional flexibility and support carbon-neutral mobility.
Battery Electric Vehicle Features
The BEV includes a battery mounted beneath the floor to maximise space efficiency. High-output electric axles (eAxles) at both the front and rear ensure effective off-road performance. These are paired with an advanced control system intended to preserve the Hilux’s renowned durability in tough environments.
Availability and Regional Plans
- The diesel version will be launched in Japan from mid-2026.
- Other regions, including Asia, Europe, and Oceania, will follow with a phased rollout.
- Toyota plans to release the FCEV Hilux in Europe and Oceania starting in 2028.

The Hilux continues to be built on Toyota’s global IMV platform, an architecture that has supported its international success for over 20 years.
