Lorenzo Musetti is two wins away from qualifying for the Nitto ATP Finals after reaching the semi-finals at the Vanda Pharmaceuticals Hellenic Championship in Athens. On Thursday, he defeated Alexandre Muller 6-2, 6-4 to secure his spot in the last four.
The pressure is high as the Italian aims to win the ATP 250 event to make his debut at the prestigious season finale held in his home country. Currently, Felix Auger-Aliassime holds the eighth and final qualifying position in the PIF ATP Live Race to Turin.
"Whichever of the two competes in Turin will land straight in the spotlight, joining Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, and Ben Shelton in the Bjorn Borg Group following Thursday’s official draw."
Despite the looming challenge in Turin, Musetti remained focused on the immediate match. The 23-year-old displayed sharp shot-making, keeping Muller off balance and serving out the match in 82 minutes.
Musetti will face Sebastian Korda in the semi-finals. Korda earned his spot by defeating Miomir Kecmanovic 6-3, 6-2. This marks Korda's third tour-level semi-final of the season. The American also holds a 3-1 lead over Kecmanovic in their Lexus ATP Head2Head series.
"The American also defeated Kecmanovic en route to the final in Adelaide in January."
Musetti’s strong run puts him closer to a breakthrough opportunity at Turin, joining top players in a highly competitive group.
