The Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) reported that from July 2024 to June 2025, the combined average payment from the Nunavut Child Benefit and the Nunavut Territorial Workers’ Supplement was $694.08.
This benefit targets households earning less than $22,000 annually.
“That’s not really substantially helping people afford the basics for their kids,” said Sindu Govindapillai, clinical director at Qupanuaq, an Inuit children support organization, expressing concern over the sufficiency of support for Nunavummiut families.
This combined support falls short of meeting the essential needs for families in Nunavut.
Author's summary: The Nunavut Child Benefit, combined with territorial supplements, averages under $700 annually, insufficient to cover basic child-related expenses for low-income families.
