Nunavut Child Benefit Payments

The average payment from the Nunavut Child Benefit and the Nunavut Territorial Workers’ Supplement was $694.08 per year, according to the Canada Revenue Agency.

The benefit is only eligible for households with an income of less than $22,000. Sindu Govindapillai, clinical director at Qupanuaq, states that this amount is insufficient for families to survive.

“That’s not really substantially helping people afford the basics for their kids,”

The Nunavut Child Benefit is a supplement to the federal Canada Child Benefit, which pays up to $8,000 per year for children under six and $6,700 for children between seven and 17. The Nunavut top-up provides $350 per child per year.
