Panthers to be tested by Wichita Carroll

Panthers to Face Tough Test from Wichita Carroll

Great Bend's football team, led by coach Erin Beck, is set to host Wichita Carroll in a second-round 5A showdown at Memorial Stadium.

The Panthers have a historical precedent for success against Wichita Carroll, having won 21-14 in 2006, which led to their lone trip to the 5A state football championship game.

"It's 5A West playoff time," said Great Bend football coach Erin Beck. "We're at the point where we'll have to play four quarters. Our kids are fresh and ready to go. The guys cranked it up in the weight room this week. They're getting stronger, which is a good sign."

Wichita Carroll owns a 5-2 all-time advantage over the Panthers, with their first meeting in 2004 won by Great Bend 42-28. The Eagles are run-oriented, led by dual-threat quarterback John Corrigan and main backfield threat Cooper Herrman.

Corrigan recently sparked the offense with two touchdowns in the Eagles' 24-20 victory over Derby.
