A $60M lawsuit has been filed against the Nassau police for an alleged wrongful arrest at a legislative hearing in 2024.
Maria Campanelli, 27, suffered a traumatic brain injury, bruising, and emotional distress after being "manhandled" by officers at the Aug. 5, 2024, meeting in Mineola.
Police officers assaulted and arrested the wrong suspect while responding to a report of an unruly person at a Nassau County legislature hearing on the Mask Transparency Act last year.
The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Central Islip, argues that Campanelli was the victim of wrongful arrest and seeks $60 million in damages.
