A recent report from the Australian National University (ANU) has put a number on the climate impact of Woodside's $19 billion Scarborough gas project.
New research published in the npj Climate Action journal has challenged Woodside's claim that emissions from the project will be "negligible".
The study directly attributed nearly 0.0004 degrees of additional global warming to the project's at least 31 years of emissions from 2026.
According to report lead author Professor Sarah Perkins-Kirkpatrick, the consequences of this impact will be significant, despite the number appearing small.
This is the first time researchers have quantified the impacts of individual projects on climate change.
Author's summary: ANU report quantifies climate impact of gas project.
