Synthetic kratom formulas are exploiting legal loopholes, putting US communities in danger. Kratom, a plant-based supplement from Southeast Asia, is marketed as a harmless energy booster, relaxant and pain reliever.
Six states, along with Washington, DC, have banned kratom, and another 18 states regulate the drug. A more lethal form of kratom has emerged, laced with the synthetic chemical 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH).
