Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan lost in straight sets, while top seed Belinda Bencic continues her climb into the world top 10.
China's last two representatives at the Prudential Hong Kong Tennis Open were defeated on Wednesday, with No 1 seed Belinda Bencic advancing.
- Zhang Shuai lost to Russia's Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-1.
- Wang Yafan was defeated by Switzerland's Bencic 6-2, 6-2.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic's victory marks her sixth in a row, following her win at the Japan Open.
