Artist Francis Bacon, known for his vibrant life in London, also had a strong affinity for Paris.
Following his successful exhibition at the Grand Palais in 1971, Bacon took up a small studio apartment in the French capital, where he lived and worked for 13 years, from 1974.
During this time, UK art historian Michael Peppiatt, author of Francis Bacon in Your Blood (2015), served as Bacon's guide to the city, helping him navigate its wonders.
Peppiatt, along with Guillaume Cerutti, president of the Pinault collection, recently attended the unveiling of a plaque honoring Bacon, installed by the City of Paris.
The plaque is located in the courtyard of Bacon's former studio-cum-apartment near the Place des Vosges.
Bacon frequently came to Paris for two to three weeks at a time.
Author's summary: Francis Bacon's Paris residence is honored with a plaque.
