John Tavares Scores 499th Goal to Lift Maple Leafs Past Sabres
John Tavares scored his 499th NHL goal on a breakaway at 1:28 of overtime, leading the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night.
The win ended a three-game losing streak for the Maple Leafs, who had fallen 5-3 in Buffalo the previous night. Tavares is now one goal shy of becoming the 49th NHL player to reach 500 goals, and he also had an assist in the game.
