Motorists driving through Portlaoise town centre will experience traffic delays for the coming three weeks, starting this Monday, October 20.
Laois County Council is installing an environmentally friendly solution to road flooding on the central road island on James Fintan Lalor Avenue outside Supermacs, called a "rain garden".
The roadworks will take place from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (excluding next Bank Holiday Monday), and will last up to Friday, November 14.
Rain gardens or bog gardens, according to Biodiversity Ireland, are an efficient way to capture surface rainwater while adding biodiversity rich native plants, without going the whole route of a pond.
