Kapaun Star Golfer Looks for Third Title in Three Years

It's been a historic career for the Kapaun Crusader, and she knows there is still more ahead.

Next week in Emporia, the Kapaun Crusaders girls golf team will be competing for a state championship, their sixth consecutive state championship.

They want to keep it going," said Kapaun head coach Marie Taylor. "I think they just have pride in what has been built and they just want to continue the legacy that we have.

After three consecutive team titles in class 5A, the Crusaders added a new piece that insured success wasn’t going away anytime soon: then freshman Ximena Sarinana.

I introduced myself to her and I slyly asked ‘Hey, are you any good?’” Taylor said. “She said ‘Yeah, I’m pretty good.’ ... Lo and behold man, she was everything if not more.

Not only did she help Kapaun succeed in continuing its streak, she won state in class 5A as a freshman.

I wouldn’t say I surprised myself but it was definitely like, wow that really happened,” Sarinana said.

Author's summary: Kapaun golfer seeks third title.
