Israeli Media's Distorted View of the War in Gaza
While global news showed a humanitarian disaster, most outlets in Israel remained silent.
In December 2023, the Israeli Institute for National Security Studies gathered members of the country’s media to assess how the media was responding to Israel’s war on Gaza.
The meeting was held at Tel Aviv University, where nationalism, grief, and revenge had been prevalent on TV for months, with Israeli victims’ testimonies and first responders’ accounts being common.
The idea of a second Holocaust, requiring a massive military response, was a regular talking point, but the suffering in Gaza was hardly noted, with close to 20,000 people killed by mid-December.
