Inside Selhurst: How engineers rebuilt 300 Electrostar trains without sending a single one off-site

Refurbishment of Electrostar Trains

A £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains used across the Govia Thameslink (GTR) network has been completed.

The project, which took five years to finish, is believed to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times. What's unusual about this project is that all the work was carried out in-house by GTR staff at the Selhurst depot.

By bringing the job in-house, GTR was able to oversee the entire process without relying on a third-party refurbishment company.

No train was sent off-site during the refurbishment process.
