A woman was airlifted to hospital on Sunday afternoon after sustaining head injuries while descending Croagh Patrick.
The incident occurred at around 3pm when the woman, who was climbing with her husband, slipped on the track and suffered facial and head injuries.
Unable to continue, she contacted emergency services. The Mayo Mountain Rescue Team (MMRT) and the Coast Guard's Rescue 118 helicopter responded to the scene.
The woman was airlifted to Mayo University Hospital. The MMRT wished her a full and speedy recovery, praising the Coast Guard crew for their swift response.
Their involvement can more than halve the time from callout to hospital in such emergencies.
