British Veterinary Association Response to CMA's Provisional Decision
The British Veterinary Association (BVA) has responded to the Competition and Markets Authority's (CMA) provisional decision on the UK veterinary services market investigation.
The CMA report highlights that veterinary professionals prioritize animal welfare and act ethically. It proposes 21 measures to improve transparency, including:
- Enhanced price and treatment information
- A price cap on written prescriptions
- A comprehensive price comparison website
The current regulatory system is not fit for purpose and must be modernised to keep pace with commercial practice and ensure pet owners are protected.
The BVA welcomes the call for vet practice regulation, representing over 19,000 vets across the UK.
