Republican lawmakers plan to vote on a new U.S. House map for the state, following President Trump's call to gain more GOP seats.
State Democratic leaders responded to GOP efforts to redraw congressional maps, hoping to help Republicans win more seats. A map drawn in 2023 helped them win 10 of the state's 14 House seats in 2024.
"The General Assembly works for North Carolina, not Donald Trump. The Republican leadership in the General Assembly has failed to pass a budget, failed to pay our teachers and law enforcement what they deserve, and failed to fully fund Medicaid,"
Governor Josh Stein said. Senate Democratic Leader Sydney Batch also commented:
"For 105 days now, Republicans have failed to pass a state budget."
