Two Drown in Dandenong Creek

A woman and a child drowned after falling into Dandenong Creek this afternoon.

A witness reported that two people were swept away near Allan Street at about 3:45 pm. It is believed the woman attempted to rescue the child but also got into trouble in the water.

Police searched the area, found the unconscious pair, pulled them from the creek, and began CPR. Despite emergency services' efforts, both were declared deceased at the scene.

The identities of the victims have not yet been confirmed. Authorities will prepare a report for the coroner.
