Tate McRae received her first Grammy nomination on Friday morning for best dance pop recording with the song “Just Keep Watching” from the movie F1, starring Brad Pitt.
The nomination came as a surprise because it was not for any track from her third studio album, So Close to What, which was completely shut out this year despite being her most successful to date.
“Grammy nominated!!!!!! @recordingacademy,” Tate McRae shared on her Instagram Stories Friday afternoon.
So Close to What is her first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 Chart. The album includes singles like “Revolving Door,” “It’s OK I’m OK,” and “Sports Car.” Its promotion featured performances on SNL, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and the VMAs.
Though it may appear she was snubbed for Best New Artist, McRae was not eligible, having been submitted three times previously, which is the maximum allowed.
Tate McRae’s first Grammy nomination highlights her rising success, despite her most acclaimed album being overlooked, showing the unpredictable nature of awards recognition.
