Wicked: For Good premieres in theaters on Friday, November 21. The original Wicked movie, released in November 2024, quickly became a cultural sensation. It was based on the popular Broadway musical and explored the friendship between Glinda (Ariana Grande), the Good Witch of the North, and Elphaba (Cynthia Erivo), the Wicked Witch of the West.
Contrary to their opposing roles in The Wizard of Oz, the film shows that they were once college roommates and close friends. However, events unfolded that drove them apart, turning them into the “enemies” known in the classic story.
"At the end of the first movie, Elphaba and Glinda make it to the Emerald City to meet the Wizard of Oz (Jeff Goldblum); they hope he can help stop whoever (or whatever) is taking the Ozian animals' voices away."
It is revealed that the Wizard himself orchestrates the chaos and seeks Elphaba's help in his plans for Oz. She rejects him and escapes, determined to protect the animals on her own. Meanwhile, Glinda remains in Oz and appears to gain the Wizard’s favor and official approval by the film’s conclusion.
The sequel, Wicked: For Good, will continue from this point and hits theaters on November 21. Fans of the Broadway musical will recognize the general storyline but should expect a unique interpretation of the conclusion with many new details yet to be uncovered.
Wicked: One Wonderful Night is available for streaming exclusively on Peacock.
Author’s summary: The upcoming sequel, Wicked: For Good, promises to explore the evolving dynamic between Glinda and Elphaba with fresh twists on the beloved story, deepening their complex rivalry and alliance.
