The Edmonton Oilers continue to struggle with their goaltending this season, prompting discussions about a potential trade involving Stuart Skinner to improve the position.
The team has faced ongoing goaltending issues throughout the early part of the season. Both Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard have failed to provide consistent performances, with Pickard recording some of the poorest statistics in the league so far. Despite hiring new goalie coach Peter Aubry over the summer, the problems persist.
After 14 games, only four have featured a save percentage higher than .900 by either goaltender, highlighting the urgency for change.
A trade to acquire a stronger goaltender could be a viable solution. Ryan Rishaug of TSN commented on 880 CHED that the Oilers would not hesitate to trade Skinner if it meant upgrading the netminder position.
“If a deal comes up that allows Stan Bowman to make a trade tomorrow that he knows in his gut is an upgrade in net and it involves moving on from Stuart Skinner, it’s done.
I don’t think that deal is gonna happen, I don’t think that deal is there to be had.”
The Oilers face a critical decision about their goaltending, considering trading Skinner to address a key weakness despite doubts about available trade opportunities.
Edmonton’s goaltending struggles may force a trade involving Stuart Skinner if a clear upgrade emerges, but such offers seem unlikely at this time.
