Indian pacer Arshdeep Singh was excluded from the playing XI for both the washed-out series opener in Canberra and the second T20I in Melbourne, which India lost to Australia by four wickets on Friday.
Despite the extra bounce at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the team management opted to stick with an additional spinner instead of including Arshdeep.
Arshdeep, 26, remains the only Indian fast bowler to have taken 100 or more wickets in T20 internationals. Ahead of the third T20I in Hobart, he shared a cryptic Instagram story that seemed to allude to themes of karma and consequences.
“Whatever kind of seeds you plant (your actions), you will harvest the same (result).” — Arshdeep Singh
Following the defeat, veteran spinner Ravichandran Ashwin voiced support for Arshdeep’s inclusion, arguing that his record warranted a regular spot in the lineup.
“Arshdeep Singh's name should be the second name on your fast bowlers’ list if Bumrah is playing. If Bumrah is not playing, Arshdeep becomes your first bowler on that team list.” — Ravichandran Ashwin
Arshdeep Singh’s omission from India’s T20I lineup sparked debate, with his cryptic post and Ashwin’s remarks highlighting questions about team selection strategy.
