India pacer Mohammed Shami has received a notice from the Honourable Supreme Court of India, along with the West Bengal government. This follows a petition filed by Shami's estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, who seeks an increase in alimony for herself and their daughter.
Hasin Jahan approached the Supreme Court challenging the earlier Calcutta High Court order. The original order awarded her Rs 1.5 lakh per month and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter. Jahan argues that the amount is insufficient given Shami’s substantial income and lifestyle.
The Supreme Court has asked Shami and the West Bengal government to respond within four weeks. Jahan’s demand reflects changes in Shami’s earnings and inflation since the previous order.
"The Calcutta High Court’s recent decision was a hard-fought victory but the amount is still inadequate," said Hasin Jahan.
Her legal counsel indicated that the alimony amount could rise from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh monthly as the trial court proceedings continue.
This ongoing legal battle highlights Hasin Jahan’s push for increased alimony based on Mohammed Shami’s income growth and changing financial needs of their family.
