Alberta Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux Resigns Amid Party Speculation

Conservative MP Matt Jeneroux has announced his resignation from the House of Commons, ending his tenure as the representative for Edmonton-Riverbend. The decision was revealed Thursday through a letter posted on social media, following public speculation about his political direction and coming just after another Conservative MP gained attention for switching parties.

“I ran in the last election hopeful that Canadians would put their faith in a team led by Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives,”

“Although the outcome was not what I anticipated, I have great admiration for the many remarkable individuals who were elected to the House of Commons on both sides of the aisle.”

He further noted that he is now focusing on his family and the responsibilities that come with it. His letter did not specify the exact date of resignation.

“On behalf of our Conservative team, I wish you and your family all the best following your decision to step down as MP next spring,”

The message from Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre suggests Jeneroux will remain in his role until 2026. Since first being elected in 2015, Jeneroux has served in several shadow cabinet positions, covering health, housing, and infrastructure portfolios.
