UTSA to Face South Florida in Second Consecutive Thursday Night Game
The Roadrunners are celebrating their 15th season of football in 2025. As one of the newer FBS programs, UTSA is now in its third year as a member of the American Conference.
Program History and Development
- UTSA began its football program from scratch, holding a practice year in 2010.
- The team played its first season as an FCS Independent in 2011.
- In 2012, UTSA joined the Western Athletic Conference.
- The Roadrunners moved to Conference USA in 2013 and became a full FBS member in 2014.
Attendance Records and Early Success
UTSA set NCAA modern startup program records in 2011 by drawing 56,743 fans to their inaugural game against Northeastern State and averaging 35,521 fans across six home games that season.
Postseason and Key Victories
- First postseason appearance occurred at the 2016 New Mexico Bowl in their sixth season.
- In 2017, UTSA recorded its first win over a Big 12 team with a 17-10 victory against Baylor.
Historic 2021 Season
UTSA made history by:
- Winning on the road against Illinois from the Big Ten Conference.
- Capturing their first conference championship with a 49-42 win over WKU.
- Ending the season 12-2 and participating in their third bowl game.
Continuing Success in 2022
The Roadrunners repeated as league champions after a 48-27 win over North Texas, finished with an 11-3 record, and made their third straight bowl appearance.
