Gérald Caussé, 62, a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, was appointed as the church’s newest apostle on Thursday. He joins the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, an all-male governing body just below the president and his two top counselors.
Apostles help guide church policy and oversee the faith’s extensive business interests. Caussé brings a deep understanding of the church’s global finances and operations, having played a key role in its worldwide temple-building surge under the previous president.
Originally from France, Caussé was responsible for managing the construction of numerous temples, where the church’s sacred ceremonies are conducted. The church remains private about its finances, but recent reports value its investment portfolio at $58 billion through its arm, Ensign Peak Advisors Inc.
“We really consider those funds as belonging to the Lord,” Caussé stated in 2020 when addressing the church’s financial confidentiality.
Gérald Caussé’s appointment as an apostle brings financial insight and experience crucial to managing the LDS Church’s expanding global temple network and vast assets.
