Kevin Durant fired back at a fan who compared the Los Angeles Dodgers' World Series victory to Durant's 2017 decision to join the Golden State Warriors in pursuit of a championship.
The 2025 World Series was one of the most exciting in recent memory. The Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays battled for 11 intense innings in Game 7 before the Dodgers emerged victorious. Fans quickly drew parallels between this historic baseball moment and basketball.
Durant’s move to the Warriors sparked debate. Leaving Oklahoma City to join the Bay Area team alongside Stephen Curry led to three years of NBA dominance. Yet, Durant has since faced criticism and the label of a “glory hunter” for chasing success with a stronger team.
The comparison arose when Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, former opponents who lost to the Dodgers in the 2020 World Series, later joined the Dodgers and won championships, similar to Durant's path:
“Hey, KD, you got company: there’s a couple of guys on the Dodgers who got beat by the eventual world champs back in 2020, and they just joined them in ‘25 and won, just like you did in ‘17.”
Durant, known for his active engagement with fans on social media, appeared irritated by the comparison, defending his career choices.
Kevin Durant rejects comparisons of his Warriors switch to Dodgers players joining a winning team, standing firm against the “glory hunter” label.
