Glenn Close reveals she took Valium before ‘traumatic’ Fatal Attraction audition

Glenn Close has shared that she was extremely nervous before her audition for one of her most iconic roles in the 1987 psychological thriller Fatal Attraction. The accomplished actress, known for her memorable roles in 101 Dalmatians, Hillbilly Elegy, and Dangerous Liaisons, recalled taking Valium to calm her nerves before facing the casting team.

“I was so nervous I took a Valium.”

During an episode of The Kardashians, Close watched scenes from her famous film alongside her All Stars co-stars. She told them about the intensity of the casting process and how unprepared she felt when she arrived for the audition.

She explained that she had been performing in a Broadway play at the time and needed to let her understudy take over so she could fly to Los Angeles for the screen test. Her hair, as she described, was “long, wild, and crazy,” but she decided not to style it, thinking it might even add to the character’s appeal.

“Well, I was doing a play on Broadway and I had to let my understudy go on, which was a big deal, fly to LA. My hair was long and wild and crazy. And I said, ‘What am I going to do with my hair?’ Then I thought, ‘Oh, forget it, I’ll just go like that.’ And I was so nervous I took a Valium.”

Close admitted that because she was not used to taking medication, the Valium affected her more than expected.

“I don’t take Valiums, so the fact that I took one meant it was serious.”

Her confession offered fans a rare glimpse into the vulnerability behind the powerhouse performance that cemented her as one of Hollywood’s most respected talents.
