First and Last Bakery, based in Connecticut, has recalled three tomato pasta sauces after state regulators identified a potential botulism risk linked to improper processing. Shoppers are urged to check and return affected jars.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) confirmed that First and Last Bakery has suspended sales and production to ensure full regulatory compliance. No reports of illness have been received so far.
Improperly processed acidified or low-acid canned foods can allow the formation of Clostridium botulinum toxin.
Botulism is rare but attacks the nervous system and can be fatal in 5–10 percent of cases.
