The Miss Universe Organisation has decided to limit the participation of Thailand’s pageant director, Nawat Itsaragrisil, in future Miss Universe events. This decision follows a public incident where Itsaragrisil called Miss Mexico, Fátima Bosch, “dumb.”
The confrontation happened during a pre-pageant event in Thailand, attended by contestants from around the world. A viral video shows Itsaragrisil addressing the participants, urging them to promote the host country and warning,
“Be careful, you are in Thailand, you are in a game.”
Tensions rose when he accused Bosch of not posting promotional content about Thailand, allegedly following orders from her national director. As Bosch defended herself, Itsaragrisil interrupted angrily:
“If you follow the orders from your national director, you are dumb.”
Bosch refused to sit, stating, because I have a voice
. Itsaragrisil then called security, causing outrage among other contestants. Many stood in solidarity with Bosch. As she left, Bosch told Itsaragrisil:
“As women, you need to show respect for us.”
The Miss Universe Organisation responded by restricting Itsaragrisil’s role in upcoming events, emphasizing respect and professionalism in the competition.
This incident highlights the importance of respect and fair treatment within international pageants, leading to official action against unprofessional behavior by a pageant director.
