The BMW Brilliance powertrain and battery manufacturing facility in Shenyang, China has begun using geothermal heat from a depth of 2900 meters.
The geothermal heating project, a collaboration between BMW Brilliance, China Huaneng Group, Wanjiang New Energy Co., Ltd., and Shenyang Sino-German Industrial Park Development and Construction Group Co., Ltd., aims to reduce carbon emissions by 18,000 tons per year.
The Shenyang facility, a sixth-generation high-voltage battery center, produces batteries for BMW's upcoming Neue Klasse models and is expected to serve as a model for geothermal heating in industrial zones in northern China.
