Mpumalanga Education Department Refutes Claims
The Mpumalanga Department of Education has strongly dismissed claims of paying nearly R2 billion in irregular salaries to former or deceased employees.
A report by The Citizen alleged that the Auditor-General's findings revealed R1.8 billion in irregular salary payments. However, the Department states that the Auditor-General's 2024/25 report contains no such finding.
Although the Department concedes that overpayments of approximately R19 million were made, they attribute this to administrative delays in termination procedures, rather than any evidence of fraud or corruption.
