As the government shutdown enters its second month, approximately 650,000 employees are receiving renewed furlough notices.
The notices, which are required to be sent every 30 days, inform employees to remain at home without working. This time, the notices do not include guarantees of back pay.
The current funding lapse entered its 31st day on Friday—and could next week surpass the record-setting, 35-day impasse from 2018-2019.
The renewed notices are necessary to maintain clarity between shutdown furloughs and more permanent cost-saving measures.
