Rio Tinto and the Albanese government are in a stalemate over the future of Tomago after the mining giant rejected a joint federal-NSW bailout offer.
Industry Minister Tim Ayres says he is open to every option, including new ownership of the Rio Tinto-controlled Tomago Aluminium, to keep the struggling smelter open.
The rejected bailout offer was reported to be worth more than $1 billion.
