A government planning inspector has rejected a Herefordshire couple's application to install solar panels on their historic farm cottage.
Neville Fleet, owner of the 16th-century, grade II listed Park Farm House in Newton St Margarets, applied for listed building consent and planning permission to install 16 solar panels on the south-facing roof in early 2024.
Herefordshire Council's senior buildings conservation officer Conor Ruttledge stated that the panels would be "incongruous and unrepresentative! and harm the significance" of the building.
However, Ruttledge suggested a ground-mounted array as an alternative. The application was refused in May last year, despite planning officer Laura Smithackednowledging its "clear environmental benefits".
Author's summary: Couple's solar panel application rejected due to historic building concerns.
