Spanish Shipbuilder Defends Himself After Uruguay Cancels Contract
Mario Cardama, owner of the Spanish shipyard Francisco Cardama S.A., defends his company after Uruguay canceled an €82 million contract for two Offshore Patrol Vessels (OPVs).
The contract was terminated due to alleged irregularities in the €4.1 million bond issued by EuroCommerce Limited, a British company backing the operation.
Uruguayan President Yamandú Orsi described the situation as an alleged "fraud" or "swindle".
