'It was for Sheila,' York Catholic freshmen say of District 3 cross country title

Nearly 1,000 runners competed in six races at Big Spring High School.

York Catholic freshmen Abby Bullen, Scarlett Bird, and Isabella Frattone, along with senior Sheila Driscoll and juniors Gwen Kerr and Dakota Bird, played a crucial role in winning the district title with just 31 points.

“We did exactly what we wanted to do on the course,” York Catholic coach Jeff Alloway said. “We talked about not killing ourselves in that first mile, because no one wins anything in that first mile. They ran smart.”

Top finishers for York Catholic included Bullen (third overall in 20:14.9), Scarlett Bird (20:28.8), and Driscoll (20:48.8).
