Rail minister Lord Hendy is visiting Britain's newest station, Beaulieu Park in north Chelmsford, which opened to passengers yesterday morning.
The station was built with the aid of £141 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund as part of the Chelmsford Garden Community project.
The three-platform station features 705 parking spaces, a public transport interchange, and over 500 cycle spaces.
The first train to call was the 07.20 to London Liverpool Street, with up to four trains an hour during peak hours, operated by Greater Anglia, which was nationalised earlier this month.
