Rep. Diana DeGette and Rep. Morgan Griffith of Virginia, leaders of the Energy and Commerce Committee's Health subcommittee, expressed hope that some bipartisan health care bills can pass through Congress this session.
DeGette highlighted the Preventive Health Savings Act, a bipartisan bill that would require the Congressional Budget Office to factor in savings from preventative care when calculating the cost of bills.
"I call it the prevention dividend,"
She noted that the bill had languished for 15 years before passing through the committee and the House in the last session, but got stuck in the Senate.
Author's summary: Bipartisan health care bills may still pass Congress.
