LDU Quito Stuns Palmeiras in Copa Libertadores Semi-Final
Liga de Quito delivered a major upset in the CONMEBOL Libertadores semi-finals, defeating favorites Palmeiras 3-0 at the Rodrigo Paz Delgado Stadium.
The Ecuadorian team took advantage of the high altitude in Quito and a dominant first half to leave Palmeiras on the brink of elimination. Bolivian player Gabriel Villamil scored the opening goal in the 15th minute, followed by Lisandro Alzugaray's penalty in the 26th minute. Villamil sealed the win with his second goal in stoppage time.
The Ecuadorian team, returning to a Libertadores semi-final after 17 years, wasted no time.
