A cargo jet operated by ACT Airlines for Emirates SkyCargo crashed into the sea during landing at Hong Kong International Airport on Monday.

The Boeing 747 cargo plane, flying from Dubai to Hong Kong, veered off the north runway and ended up partially submerged in the sea at around 3:50 a.m.

The aircraft reportedly broke apart on impact. All four crew members were safely rescued, according to airport authorities.

However, two people on the ground, believed to have been in a vehicle struck by the plane, were killed in the incident, as reported locally.

Emirates confirmed that the plane carried no cargo and sustained major damage upon landing.

No cargo was on board, and the plane sustained significant damage.
