Defending champions Ratoath are on the verge of securing consecutive SHC titles as they face Kiltale this Sunday, following their 60-year wait for a championship win last year.
Andy Dermody, a Westmeath native and Ratoath's current manager, reflected on his successful first year in charge, stating that the initial months were challenging due to player availability for county teams.
"The first few months were tough, we had plenty of lads in with county teams and we didn't really know what we had. Even the first game of the championship, Daithi McGowan was in with Meath footballers for that semi-final on the Sunday and we had our first round on the Monday."
Dermody noted that despite the difficulties, the team has steadily improved since their first championship game against Kiltale.
