Israel received the coffin of a missing hostage handed over to the Red Cross from Hamas, according to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office.
The Israeli military and security forces received the coffin inside the Gaza Strip and will transfer it to Israel and the Ministry of Health’s National Center for Forensic Medicine for formal identification.
The handover came after Hamas’s military wing, the Qassam Brigades, announced it would hand over the body of a hostage to the International Committee of the Red Cross, referring to the remains as those of an "occupation prisoner", alluding to an Israeli hostage.
The remains were handed over to be transferred to Israel for identification and notification of the family.
