University of Gothenburg Acquires New Underwater Vehicle

The University of Gothenburg has announced the purchase of a new underwater vehicle, enabling the continuation of its research activities.

Professor Anna Wåhlin, of oceanography at the University of Gothenburg, previously worked with the RAN underwater vehicle.

Thanks to Ran, we became the first researchers in the world to enter beneath the Thwaites grounding-line glacier.

The new underwater vehicle, Hugin, has a 3000-meter range.
The purchase was made possible by a major donation from Voice of the Ocean and insurance funds.
The Hugin underwater vehicle will replace the RAN, which was lost under an Antarctic glacier in 2024.
