Utah Supreme Court Appointment
Gov. Spencer Cox has appointed Judge John Nielsen to the Utah Supreme Court, replacing outgoing Associate Chief Justice John Peace.
Cox made the selection after reviewing dozens of applications and conducting hours of interviews to explore the candidates' judicial philosophy and temperament.
Gov. Cox is confident in his choice after examining many of their arguments and decisions.
Judge Nielsen currently serves on the 3rd District Court, a position he was appointed to in September 2024 by Gov. Cox.
- He has worked in various private ventures, including a joint firm with former Utah Associate Chief Justice Thomas Lee.
- Nielsen also worked 11 years as solicitor general in the Utah Attorney General's Office.
- He has experience as an adjunct associate professor at the University of Utah.
