According to data from BetterHelp, which surveyed 2,000 people, many struggle to have a breakthrough moment in therapy. In fact, 44% of respondents who were advised to seek therapy didn't follow through, with 75% citing trouble finding the right therapist and 74% stopping due to a poor match.

It's easy to second-guess whether you're somehow "too broken" to be "fixed," or if your problems are too big even for a professional.

However, Esther Boykin, LMFT, founder of Group Therapy Associates in Washington, DC, says these assumptions are not accurate.
