DNA testing is underway to identify human remains discovered off I-15 in Washington City, Utah.
A skull was found on Monday at mile marker 14, northbound I-15, approximately 50 feet off the road, according to Utah Highway Patrol.
"I don't know the interval, but from time to time, the Department of Transportation sends work crews out there to clean up the debris," said Alexander.
The Utah Highway Patrol and the Utah State Bureau of Investigation are leading the investigation. The remains are believed to be several years old, hidden in layers of debris in a well-covered area not easily visible from the roadway.
The Utah State Crime Lab is conducting the DNA testing.
