Data center power demand is increasing rapidly, with one hyper-scale data center requiring as much power as 2 million homes. Virginia, with approximately 3.6 million homes, is at the forefront of this issue.
A recent tour of a new hyper-scale power solution manufacturing facility in Henrico County highlighted the significant power demands of data centers. Both gubernatorial candidates recognize the importance of data center demand to Virginia's economic future, but they have differing views on how to address it.
"This is the world's first and most compact and dense power distribution unit,"
said Dennis Strieter, co-founder of Hyper Solutions, during a tour of the facility with Governor Glenn Youngkin. The unit delivers 1.3 million watts, equivalent to the power required by 2 thousand homes, to computer servers.
