A small airplane crashed onto a major Massachusetts highway during Monday morning rush hour, killing two people from Rhode Island on board.
The crash occurred as a nor’easter was bringing rain and strong winds to the area. Despite the severity of the incident, no motorists on Interstate 195 were seriously injured, according to New Bedford Mayor Jon Mitchell.
A woman whose car was struck by debris was taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, state police reported.
Witness videos showed black smoke billowing from the plane's fuselage, which was resting on its side, with rubble scattered across a grassy median and nearby forest.
