Federal decision on scaled back Tasmania wind project delayed for fifth time

Federal Decision on Tasmania Wind Project Delayed

The St Patricks Plains wind project in Tasmania has been delayed for the fifth time, awaiting a decision under the federal environmental Act.

The project, now proposed for 47 turbines, was originally designed for 67 and later scaled back to 50. It is located south-east of Milena and 25km north of Bothwell in Tasmania's Central Highlands.

A decision was expected, but the deadline has been pushed back to November 28, with both the previous and current delays requested by developer Ark Energy, according to a government spokesperson.

Ark Energy has been contacted for comment.

The project, now at 291 megawatt (MW), was deemed to require federal supervision under the EPBC Act in 2019. Ark Energy acquired the developer in 2022, contributing to the lengthy delays.

Author's summary: Tasmania wind project delayed again.
